Although LA's first major Jewish community settled in the East LA neighbourhood of Boyle Heights, the stretch of Fairfax Aveune between Beverly Boulevard and Melrose Avenue has been LA's main Jewish drag since the 1940's. If you're in the bar for a new jewish boy freind in Los angeles with a menorah or the latest in Israeli pop music, you're in the right place.
and now a note from our sponsor....
Thank you again for your generous offer in regards to our luncheon. As we discussed, here is the silent auction item submission form. As we discussed, some kind of hair/spa package would be a great addition to the items we have up for silent auction. If you decide to submit something, it will be a part of the silent auction with the proceeds going to Children’s Cancer Research Fund. Let me know what you decide, or you can just mail this form and anything else you have to the address below. Thanks again.

Kosher markets, butcher's stores, restaurants and bakeries are located on Farifax ave in the City of Los Angeles ; all are excellent, and naturally, almost all are closed on Saturdays. Open 24-7, however is the legendary Los Angeles Canter's Deli, a World War II-ear kosher restaurant, deli and bakerey. Adjoining it is the divey Canter's Kibitz Room ; across the street is Largo, a haven for KCRW- friendly singer-songwriters. Just south of the Beverly – Fairfax intersertion lies CBS Television City, built in 1952 and still used as a filming location for shows such as The Price Is Right. Looking at the vast complex, you'd never guess the site once held a major sporting stadium: Gilmore Field, built in 1939 and home to the minor- league Hollywood Stars baseball team until their demise in 1957 ( CBS bought the lot, razed the stadium and expanded their facilities ). Next door, at the junction of W 3rd Street and Fairfax Avenue, is the tag- team retail experience of the Grove and the Farmers Market. The former is dominated by all the usual chains, but its spacey, open – air layout helps make it one of the most pleasant shopping centres in Los Angeles. The Farmers Market, was made before the Grove by more than 60 years, no longer lives up to its name. Still, though the farmers who set up here for the first time in 1934 have long since moved their wares elsewhere, food continues to dominate this wonderfully old fashioned commerical corner. Some of the stalls here are shops, selling fruits and fudge and assorted sundry temptations; others are full service food counters, hawking everything from pizza to gumbo for the benefit of a cheerily ravenous crowd. For the best places to eat, here.
